Sample card — for illustration only

All the upside of your card. None of the exposure.

Shop anywhere with a number that isn't your real one — capped, private, and still earning every reward you'd get anyway.

Your real card stays private

Merchants only ever see the one-time number. If it's leaked or stored, your actual card is untouched and the number can't be charged past your limit.

Keep every reward

A one-time card runs on the credit card you link, so purchases post to your real card. You keep all the points, cash back, and benefits.

Works at any checkout

A standard 16-digit number, expiry, and CVV. Paste it into any online checkout, set a spend limit, and you're done.

Generate one in seconds

No new bank, no new account. Bring the card you already carry.

Link your credit card

Add the Visa or Mastercard you already use. Your real number stays with Allowance, never the merchant.

Set a spend limit

Choose the maximum the one-time number can be charged. It can't be used beyond the amount you allow.

Check out anywhere

Copy the generated number, expiry, and CVV into any online checkout — with your rewards still intact.

Questions, answered

What is a one-time card number?

It's a real 16-digit card number, with its own expiration date and CVV, that you generate from a credit card you already own. You use it at checkout in place of your real card, so the merchant never sees your actual number — and you set a spend limit so it can only be charged up to the amount you allow.

Do I still earn my credit card rewards?

Yes. A one-time card runs on the card you link, so purchases post to your real card and you keep all the points, cash back, and benefits you'd normally earn.

Where can I use a one-time card?

Anywhere online that accepts Visa or Mastercard. Because it's a standard 16-digit number with an expiry and CVV, you paste it into a normal checkout form just like any other card.

How is this different from my bank's virtual card?

Most banks and issuers still don't offer one-time or merchant-locked numbers. Allowance brings that capability to the cards you already carry, so you don't have to switch banks or open a new account.

Is my real card number safe?

Yes. The merchant only ever receives the one-time number, never your real card details. If that number is leaked or stored, your underlying card stays protected and it can't be charged beyond the limit you set.
